Meet Shane McMillian, Master's Level Intern
I’m Shane McMillian, a Clinical Mental Health Counselor Intern currently working toward a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Tarleton State University. I earned my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Texas State University and am on
the path toward becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am currently completing
my practicum, where I am gaining supervised experience in providing therapy and
continuing to develop my counseling skills.
My goal is to create a counseling space that feels respectful, supportive, and grounded
in trust. I value a therapeutic relationship where clients feel heard, understood, and
accepted without judgment. I approach counseling with empathy, curiosity, and respect
for each client’s unique experiences, values, and goals.
I believe counseling is a collaborative effort to help move the client toward greaterinsight, stability, and meaningful change. In my work, I aim to support clients as theyexplore their
experiences, recognize patterns, build on personal strengths, and identifysteps toward growth. My approach emphasizes both evidence-based counselingpractices and the importance of a genuine therapeutic connection. As an intern, I work under clinical supervision to provide thoughtful, ethical, andcompetent care. My hope is to be present with clients as they better understandthemselves, navigate difficult experiences, and move toward the changes they want tomake in their lives.
